A family of four was out-growing it’s 1940s Colonial.  The main goal was to create a second floor addition to house a master suite & office.  This gave space & a bathroom back for the kids as well as freed up functional space in the master bedroom that had acted as an ad hoc office.  The owners requested above average space, with vaulted ceilings & lots of natural light.

We used the concept of 'wrapping' to incorporate the new addition w/ the existing home, while bringing the whole composition up-to-date.  Initially, we used the fiber cement fascia boards as fins that would wrap from the existing home's pediment over & around the new addition.  The same gable roof angles were used for continuity.  We also updated the shutters in charcoal fiber cement board which cascade into flower boxes w/ the same material.  Smooth subtle Hardie board almond panels are seen on the side elevation to tie in w/ the front.   Lastly a fun feature is the square walk-in-closet window & master bath window/skylight combo that will let in amazing morning light; both w/ reverse blinds to pull up as desired.

We are looking forward to breaking ground(or roof) this Spring!
